Sara Jane Doberstein is a Canadian contemporary realist painter known for her vibrant, highly detailed works inspired by the natural beauty of coastal landscapes and everyday objects. Born in Hamilton, Ontario, in 1976 and raised in Owen Sound on the shores of Georgian Bay, her artistic vision was shaped by a lifelong connection to water, shoreline environments, and the ever-changing character of the lakes and coastlines.

After studying at Emily Carr Institute of Art + Design and Fanshawe College, Sara Jane committed herself to a full-time professional art career in 2000. Her passion for painting emerged at an early age, nurtured through family travels along the Atlantic coast of North America. While the rugged beauty of the American coastline continues to inspire her work, the waters, beaches, and natural landscapes of Canada—including Georgian Bay and the Great Lakes region—remain a profound and enduring influence on her artistic practice.

Working in a style that ranges from traditional representational painting to contemporary realism, Sara Jane explores the beauty, texture, and character of the natural world. Her subjects often include seashells, shorebirds, marine life, weathered coastal artifacts, and botanical forms, as well as carefully observed still lifes. Whether depicting a collection of shells gathered along a shoreline, the worn surface of an antique object, or the luminous color of fresh fruit, her paintings elevate ordinary subjects through scale, detail, and a distinctive sense of wonder.

Sara Jane's work is recognized for its rich color, and engaging compositions that balance realism with a playful and imaginative perspective. Through her paintings, she seeks to capture not only the physical beauty of her subjects but also the memories, stories, and emotional connections they evoke.

A Signature Member of the Oil Painters of America, American Women Artists, and the American Society of Marine Artists, Sara Jane has earned numerous awards and distinctions throughout her career. Her work has been featured in prominent juried exhibitions across North America, including receiving the Grand Prize at the American Women Artists exhibition at The Rockwell Museum.

Her paintings have been featured in publications including Southwest Art ("21 Under 31" and "Start Your Collection"), American Art Collector, International Artist Magazine, Cape Cod Life, and Shrimp, Collards & Grits Magazine.

Over the past two decades, Sara Jane has participated in numerous solo, two-person, and juried exhibitions. Her work has been represented by leading galleries throughout the United States and can be found in private and corporate collections across North America and Europe, as well as in the permanent collection of the Arnot Art Museum in Elmira, New York.
